Equipment

The MTEEP of DUTh, in its current form, includes the following RES technologies:

  • Autonomous PV power station of 50 KWp power
  • Electric bicycle charging stations using photovoltaic and wind energy
  • Biomass /thermal solar collector hybrid station for heating, cooling and DHW with a total capacity of 2.3 MWth
  • A small, 1 KW vertical axis wind turbine
  • A 225 KWth shallow geothermal system and central air conditioning unit for cooling, heating and DHW
  • A heat absorption cooler, cooling power 90RT
  • A power generation unit using an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)
  • Units (2 pcs.) of thermal energy storage with phase change material (PCM) of 60kW each (Thermal Storage Batteries)

With the produced energy (electrical, thermal and cooling) it serves the energy needs of eight (8) student residence buildings with a total capacity of 592 beds, a restaurant with a daily capacity of 398 people and an amphitheater with a monthly attendance of 550 people. The total area of the buildings is 14,820m². All the buildings and the above-mentioned facilities are located within the privately owned area of the DUTh on the Kimmeria campus in Xanthi.
